When Todd Clough tells you he needs coffee every day, it’s not surprising – as Monadnock’s Coater/Stock Prep/Process Control Manager, he’s always on the go, from the manufacturing floor then to meetings and then back again. The coffee is a necessity to keep him on the move (true story: he keeps an emergency coffee pot he can use on his grill at home just to ensure his coffee brews, no matter what. Why? He once drove for an hour during a power outage to get his daily fix of caffeine!).
So, grab a cup of coffee and let’s take a look at a typical day in the life of Todd! When you see how busy he is, then you may need a refill! A typical day starts off by making the rounds to each of Monadnock’s departments, to see if anything pressing needs to be addressed from overnight. Once Todd knows what his focus for the day will be, he starts pulling reports to look at the performance from the previous day. It’s his job to analyze where attention needs to be given, in order to keep the many projects he heads up on track. Armed with the latest from the mill floor, Todd sets up multiple meetings with different departments to address their individual needs.
The breadth of projects that Todd helps manage is something he finds unique to his experience at Monadnock. He enjoys the variety that Monadnock’s diverse product mix provides, plus he says it helps keep him on his toes, as no one meeting or project is like the last. Another element that Todd loves about his job is the fact that he gets to work closely with all of Monadnock’s employees. The mill is a large facility with a lot of personalities and Todd enjoys working with them and getting to know them individually. Working together like one cohesive unit to get the job done is the most rewarding part of Todd’s day.
That said, getting the job done can be challenging, especially when a customer’s need requires innovation to solve a problem that has never been addressed before. This is the type of challenge where Todd thrives! In fact, when someone says “Oh, we’ve tried that before and it didn’t work,” a light bulb goes off in his head and Todd will likely be up most of the night, thinking about ways to make it work and solve the problem.
Once he’s solves the riddle, Todd is able to develop the systems and create the tools that allow his team to get to work. He is always laser focused on creating tools that make his team’s job easier and better. Todd’s ingenuity, combined with his leadership, technical expertise and agility result in products that lead the market in innovation and quality.
On top of his day-to-day responsibilities, Todd is an integral part of Monadnock’s Green Team– a steering committee that drives environmental impact reductions across the organization.
After a busy day running around the mill, Todd ends work by bringing the daily raw material receipts to the accounting department. If he’s not headed home for an all-night brainstorm to reach a “Eureka” moment to solve a client need, then Todd can be founded spending time with his family and dog, hiking in the woods of surrounding Wilton, New Hampshire (that is, unless the Red Sox, Patriots or Bruins are playing…) .
Ready for another cup of coffee yet? We can bet that Todd is – he’ll need it to meet the next day of unique and rewarding challenges that working at Monadnock is sure to present.
Todd understands paper, business and people. All that combined with his thirst for knowledge makes him truly invaluable at Monadnock. He’s a patient man…but can be very persistent when challenging the status quo. Todd has the skills to make changes for the better and the drive to get ‘er done!
