2024 CORPORATE SUSTAINABILITY REPORT
Letter from Chairman & Chief Executive Officer Richard G. Verney
Dear Friends,
Last year was one defined by meaningful progress, the kind that comes from staying focused on what matters most. Across the company we saw the impact of that focus, from advancing our fiber-based solutions to improving how we use and manage resources. Values-driven work continues to shape our approach to moving forward.
One meaningful measure of our progress last year came in the form of a Platinum rating from EcoVadis, placing Monadnock Paper Mills, Inc. among the top one percent of companies assessed worldwide. This honor was the result of the systems we’ve built to ensure our values are consistently put into practice.
In 2024, that meant continued reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, improved water and waste management, ongoing investment in employee training and ethical practices. It also took shape in new offerings like our fiber-based gift card, Renovo, and Stello, the perfect-white substrate designed for the fine stationery and invitation market. These innovations align with our commitment to crafting sustainable solutions that reflect how people give, connect, and communicate today.
At Monadnock, sustainability isn’t an add-on. It’s built into everything we do, from environmental practices to labor policies, from hydroelectric power to post-consumer waste material. Every action is part of a larger framework designed for transparency and accountability, and it’s that structure that keeps us moving forward with purpose.
A heartfelt thank you to our employees, customers, and partners for your unwavering commitment to meaningful action. Your shared dedication makes it all possible.
Sincerely,
Richard G. Verney, Chairman and CEO

Our environmental policy focuses on measurable outcomes, continuous improvement, and innovation to inform decisions across departments, reinforcing sustainability as a core operational priority.
Monadnock’s Environmental Policy outlines key areas of environmental responsibility, each supported by measurable targets and routine evaluation. Key components of our Environmental Policy include:
Energy & Greenhouse Gas Emissions Monadnock prioritizes energy efficiency and greenhouse gas reduction through annual emissions inventories, operational audits, and targeted energy-saving initiatives. We offset a portion of our emissions through the purchase of Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) and Verified Emissions Reductions (VERs).
Air Pollution Air quality is monitored and managed through operational controls, with investments in technologies that reduce air pollutants.
Water Monadnock tracks water use and discharge quality across operations. Our hydropower facility, the 1.9 MW Monadnock Project, supports local ecosystem health and offsets conventional energy use.
Materials & Waste Monadnock minimizes waste generation by mapping waste streams, optimizing production processes, and choosing low-impact materials during product development.
Hazardous Materials Monadnock implements a formal Hazard Communication Program to identify and manage risks related to hazardous materials in processes and products.

12
million gallons
water saved through efficiency upgrades
Monadnock strengthens its commitment to environmental stewardship through targeted annual improvements guided by our ISO 14001 Environmental Management System. Each initiative reflects a structured, accountable approach to sustainability, focused on measurable outcomes and continuous improvement.
Electricity: The conversion of two v-belt drives improved motor efficiency by approximately 5 percent and more than doubled drive belt life. This targeted upgrade resulted in an energy savings of 20,000 kWh over the year.
Waste Reduction: Diverted 98 percent of total waste from landfill through recycling efforts. Additional paper stock loss reduction projects, including the installation of alarmed stock dump valves and the recovery of cleaner system rejects for select product grades, are estimated to reduce annual stock losses by 1 to 2 percent.
Water Consumption: Key improvements included automated temperature controls, whitewater system balance and control on #1PM, and the addition of valve position indicators and alarms on various water and paper stock valves. These efforts collectively reduced annual water use by approximately 12 million gallons.
Oil Consumption: Replacing nine steam traps resulted in an energy savings of approximately 1,000 million BTUs.
Hydropower: Monadnock owns and operates a 1.9 megawatt hydroelectric facility on the Contoocook River. Depending on annual precipitation and river flow, this system can generate up to 50 percent of the electricity used in our manufacturing operations.
Recycled Fiber: Used 2,867 tons of post-consumer recycled pulp across our product lines, a 25 percent increase from last year.

Monadnock Paper Mills is acutely aware of current local water resources, limitations, and availability. We closely measure, monitor, and report all mill freshwater usage to comply with use reporting requirements and to collect data used to verify progress on perennial impact-reduction projects. All freshwater use and water discharges are monitored and reported to the state Department of Environmental Services. We set and track annual goals and metrics for water use in gallons per unit of production, with our Green Team identifying and directing water-reduction projects. These include recycling heat-exchanger water, using smaller freshwater shower nozzles on paper machines, substituting recycled “whitewater” in place of freshwater in non-critical applications, and minimizing overflow or backwash to the sewer. Collectively, these efforts have lowered freshwater usage by 30% over the past 25 years.
In 2024, further reductions in water use and oil consumption were achieved through targeted conservation projects. Expanded recycling initiatives and production efficiencies reduced the amount of waste sent to landfills while increasing overall material recovery. As demand for sustainable products increased, we observed a notable rise in the use of post-consumer recycled fiber across our portfolio.
The chart reflects a year of focused, accountable progress—one where improvements resulted from purposeful action at every level of our organization.
